Some of you may already know that car engines create a vacuum from the combustion process. When the piston is going down in the intake cycle, there will be a stream of air that is drawn into the combustion chamber and produces a vacuum.

This amount of vacuum is regulated by the throttle openings. This will keep the air-to-fuel ratio of the engine just right.

However, air is easy to leak. So, it is not surprising that vacuum leaks can occur. What are the signs of a vacuum leak?

1. Engine Doesn’t Idle Right

When the engine has a vacuum leak, the idle of the car will not be smooth. It may idle on a higher RPM, or the RPM goes up and down unstably.

2. Stall

In some conditions, vacuum leaks can cause the engine to stall. This happens due to the lack of air supply into the engine which makes the engine deficit in the air needed for the combustion process

3. Sound

When there is a vacuum leak, it will produce an air leakage sound like a hiss. This hissing sound can appear from the vacuum hose, or from some components such as the brake booster that utilizes vacuum.

To diagnose a vacuum leak, it is necessary to check several components such as vacuum hoses, EGR, gaskets, to components such as brake boosters.

Leaks also usually occur frequently on the tyres. However, especially for Accelera NPM tyres, NPM technology will keep the tyres safe to use at a limited speed if there is a leak even up to 0 PSI. So that in an emergency, you don't need to worry because Accelera NPM run-flat tyres can run without air pressure at all.

Beberapa dari kalian mungkin sudah mengetahui kalau mesin mobil menciptakan vakum dari proses pembakaran. Ketika piston sedang turun dalam siklus intake, maka akan ada aliran udara yang tertarik ke dalam ruang bakar dan menghasilkan vakum.

Jumlah vakum ini tentunya diatur oleh bukaan gas. Hal ini akan menjaga rasio udara dan bahan bakar dari mesin supaya tetap pas.

Namun, udara tentunya mudah untuk bocor. Sehingga, tidak heran bila kebocoran vakum atau vacuum leak bisa terjadi. Apa saja tanda dari vacuum leak?

1. Idle Tidak Pas

Ketika mesin mengalami kebocoran vakum, idle dari mobil tidak akan terasa halus atau langsam. BIsa jadi mesin idle dengan RPM yang lebih tinggi, atau RPM turun dan naik dengan tidak stabil.

2. Stall

Pada beberapa kondisi, kebocoran vakum bisa menyebabkan mesin stall. Hal ini terjadi karena kurangnya pasokan udara ke dalam mesin yang membuat mesin defisit udara yang dibutuhkan untuk proses pembakaran

3. Suara Mesin

Ketika ada kebocoran vakum, akan menghasilkan suara kebocoran udara seperti desisan. Suara desisan ini bisa muncul dari selang vakum, atau dari beberapa komponen seperti booster rem yang memanfaatkan vakum.

Untuk mendiagnosa kebocoran vakum, maka perlu pengecekan kepada beberapa komponen seperti selang vakum, EGR, gasket, sampai ke komponen seperti booster rem.

Kebocoran juga biasanya sering terjadi ke ban. Namun khusus untuk ban Accelera NPM, teknologi NPM akan membuat ban tetap aman digunakan dengan kecepatan terbatas bila terjadi kebocoran sampai 0 PSI. Sehingga dalam keadaan darurat, kamu tidak perlu khawatir karena ban run flat Accelera NPM bisa berjalan tanpa tekanan udara sama sekali.
