Why Open Diff Can’t Slide Easily?

Who doesn't love drifting? As long as it's done in the right place, drifting is a lot of fun. The sensation of burning Accelera tyres and producing huge smoke while controlling the car with precision is very pleasant.

Well before you immediately try drifting with your rear-wheel drive car, maybe the popular BMW E36, there is one thing to keep in mind. Standard differential that is mostly open (open diff) is difficult to perform or maintain drifting.

This is because of one thing, the diff always transfers power to the tyres that have the lightest load. When drifting or cornering, that tyre is the inside tyre when turning. For example, when the car turns right, then the inside of the car is the right part.

The problem is, to maintain the drift angle, continuous power input is required. However, because the diff is open, power is only transferred to tyres that do not have maximum grip. As a result, often the car immediately goes straight and does not want to drift.

However, small drifting such as u-turn and handbrake turn can still be done. Then initiation by moving the car load (weight transfer) can also be done.

If you want to do more drifting and actually hold angle, then you can make changes to the diff, you can install Limited Slip Differential (LSD) or weld the standard diff. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages.

In addition to the right diff, also use the right tyres. You must use tyres that have the right traction to maintain the drift and so that it can be initiated.

If the power of the car is not too big, you can use Accelera Phi or Accelera Phi-R. But if you have a powerful car, then use the Accelera 651 Sport.

Nah sebelum kamu langsung mencoba drifting dengan mobil penggerak roda belakangmu, mungkin BMW E36 yang sedang populer, ada satu hal yang harus diingat. Gardan standar yang kebanyakan terbuka (open diff) sulit untuk melakukan atau mempertahankan drifting.

Hal ini karena satu hal, gardan selalu mentransfer tenaga menuju ban yang memiliki beban paling ringan. Saat drifting atau menikung, ban tersebut adalah ban area dalam mobil saat berbelok. Misalnya mobil berbelok ke kanan, maka bagian dalam mobil adalah bagian kanan.

Masalahnya, untuk mempertahankan sudut drifting, diperlukan input tenaga secara terus menerus. Namun, karena gardan terbuka, tenaga hanya tersalurkan ke ban yang tidak memiliki daya cengkeram maksimal. Hasilnya, seringkali mobil langsung melurus dan tidak mau drifting.

Tetapi, drifting kecil-kecilan seperti u-turn dan handbrake turn masih bisa dilakukan. Lalu inisiasi dengan memindahkan beban mobil (weight transfer) juga bisa dilakukan.

Jika ingin lebih maksimal, maka bisa melakukan perubahan pada gardan, bisa dengan memasang Limited Slip Differential (LSD) atau mengelas gardan standar. Keduanya memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangan masing-masing.

Selain gardan yang tepat, gunakan juga ban yang tepat. Drifting harus menggunakan ban yang memiliki traksi pas untuk mempertahankan drifting serta agar bisa diinisiasi.

JIka tenaga mobil tidak terlalu besar, bisa menggunakan Accelera Phi atau Accelera Phi-R. Namun jika tenaganya besar, maka gunakanlah Accelera 651 Sport.
